Who we are

The Movement for the Ordination of Women is an Anglican organisation.

Our aims focus on persuading all the dioceses of the Australian church to admit women to the three ordained ministries: deacon, priest and bishop.

  • We encourage women to hear and respond to the call of God.
  • We seek to express a women's perspective in theology, to celebrate our diversity of spirituality and to promote the appropriate use of inclusive language in worship.
  • We hope to bring the laity and clergy into closer partnership and to encourage the full use and recognition of the ministry gifts of all believers.
  • We foster ecumenical links and support moves to ordain women in other churches.

While many Australian dioceses now ordain women to the priesthood and, in the future may consecrate women priests as bishops, the synod of Sydney, the largest and wealthiest diocese of our nation has remained opposed to this.

MOW SYDNEY appeals to Sydney Anglicans to prayerfully consider these issues. We will provide you with information and insights to assist you.

Above all, we welcome courteous and sincere dialogue with those who may disagree with us.
