Women clergy?

The debate on whether or not women should be ordained to the priesthood has been a long running one. Following are links to a number of articles and papers written for the Movement for the Ordination of Women and published prior to discussions and votes in Synod on this matter.

Movement for the Ordination of Women Position Paper: 1999

In the coming months we will add to this a set of studies written by Dr. Marlene Hickin. Before leaving Australia for England in 1985 Marlene was a Convenor for the Movement for the Ordination of Women.

While employed as a ministry training consultant in a London diocese she was asked to devise and lead a series of workshops on the issue of women's ordination, prior to the General Synod debate.

She designed a non-adversarial presentation for educating church members about the complexities of the issue and it was a liberating experience for all those involved.

Marlene is a graduate of London University (BA, BD, DipEd) and she recently gained a DMin from the United States. Her thesis in Applied Theology, published by Harper Collins UK in 1996, explored the gap between belief and behaviour for professing - and professional - Christians.

Her series of studies is intended to open up the issue for those who have not explored it before and who have not had the opportunity of theological study. The Bible itself will be the only resource.
